Update an active KB record

Procedure

To update an active KB record:

  1. Go to the Record Detail page for the active record and click the Update button.
    QuestionPoint displays the Edit Record page.
    (If there is no Update button on the Record Detail page, you cannot update the record.)
  2. Click the Print View link if you want to view a printer-friendly version of the Record Detail page in a separate window while you update the record. For example, you can use the Record Detail as a reference while you add a citation. Or, you can check that any URLs are still properly linked.
  3. Add or remove Subject information as needed and click the Save button.
    To do this, click the Subject link at the top of the page to go to the page for editing Subject information. Follow the instructions on the page. Subject
  4. Add or remove Geographic Code information as needed and click the Save button.
    To do this, click the Geographic Code link at the top of the page to go to the page for editing Geographic Code information. Follow the instructions on the page. Geographic Code
  5. Add, remove, or change Citation information as needed.
    To do this, click the Citation link at the top of the page to go to the page for editing Citation information. Any existing citations are listed at the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions on the page. Citation fields: KB record
  6. Add or complete Addenda information as needed.
    To do this, click the Addenda link at the top of the page to go to the page for adding or completing this information. Any existing addenda are listed at the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions on the page. Additional Information: Addenda and Editor Notes
  7. Go to the Edit Record page if you need to change Required Fields or Optional Fields in the record. (Click the Record Detail link at the top of the page to go to the Edit Record page.)
  8. Change Required Fields as needed.
    (You must briefly note your changes in the Editor Notes field. When you save the record, QuestionPoint moves your note to the Previous Editor Notes area. In that area, QuestionPoint also adds a note that lists the fields you changed. Click the Previous Editor Notes link to view the previous notes in a separate window.)   9. Change Optional Fields as needed.

  10. Click the Save button.
    QuestionPoint saves your changes. The record is reindexed within 24 hours to make your changes searchable.
  11. Click the Unlock button to return to the Record Detail page if QuestionPoint does not automatically unlock the record and return you to the Record Detail page.

Reset

Click the Reset button on a page to remove any changes that you made after you last saved the page.

Unlock

Click the Unlock button on the Edit Record page to stop updating the record and return to the Record Detail page. Any changes that you saved remain in the record. When you unlock a record, another KB editor can work on it as needed.

Update

Click the Update link if you need to return to the Edit Record page.

Return to Record Display

Click the Return to Record Display link to return to the Record Detail page without unlocking the record. Any changes that you saved remain in the record. (You can click Unlock button on the Record Detail page to unlock the record.)
