Sort a question list

Procedure

To sort the questions in a list:

  1. Click one of the Sort By links located above the list: ID, Received, or Updated.
QuestionPoint sorts the questions in descending or ascending order and redisplays the list including any questions added after the list was last refreshed.
  2. If you want to reverse the descending/ascending order of the sort, click the same Sort By link again.
QuestionPoint reverses the order and refreshes and redisplays the list.

Current sort: shown by the bold link

The Sort By link that is highlighted in bold shows the list's current sort. Click that link to reverse the descending/ascending order of the current sort.

Default sorts

Question lists. By default, question lists are sorted by Question ID in descending order (highest number at the top of the list). The default sort places the latest question received at the top of the list.

Service History lists. By default, lists of archived questions in the Service History are sorted by Question ID in ascending order (lowest number at the top of the list). The default sort places the earliest question received at the top of the list.

Sort by Question ID or by received date and time

QuestionPoint receives a question when:

  • A patron submits a question on a question form
  • A chat session ends
  • A librarian adds a question manually

Each time a question is received, QuestionPoint assigns the next highest Question ID number to it and records its received date and time. The received date appears in question lists. The received date and time appear in Full Questions.

You can sort question lists by Question ID or by received date and time, in descending or ascending order. Both sorts provide similar results.

  • Descending Order: It places the highest Question ID and latest question received at the top.
  • Ascending Order: This sort places the lowest Question ID and earliest question received at the top.

Sort by updated date and time

QuestionPoint updates a question and adds or changes its updated date and time whenever someone acts on the question. The updated date that appears in question lists is the date of the last action recorded in the question history. A question has no updated date until an action is taken on it.

You can sort question lists by updated date and time, in descending or ascending order.

  • Descending Order: This sort places the latest question updated at the top. It places questions that have not been updated at the bottom preceded by the earliest question updated.
  • Ascending Order: This sort places questions that have not been updated at the top followed by the earliest question updated. It places the latest question updated at the bottom.
