Alert: This account is already logged into Chat (standard chat)

When you are monitoring QuestionPoint standard chat, the message, Alert: This account is already logged into Chat, may appear above the tabs on the left side of your Chat Window.

Why the message appears

The message appears if your QuestionPoint account is currently logged on to Chat two or more times. When this happens, problems may occur.

Here are two situations in which the message appears:

  • You are logged on to Chat. Another librarian logs on to Chat using the same QuestionPoint account. The message appears to each of you. If one of you logs off before the other, QuestionPoint may end the other's new and in-progress sessions with patrons.
  • You log on to QuestionPoint and then log on to Chat. Later, you forget that you are already logged on. Without logging off, you log on to QuestionPoint again and then log on to Chat. The message appears. If you log off once leaving a session open, QuestionPoint may end any remaining new and in-progress sessions with patrons.

What you should do if the message appears

If the message appears, you and anyone else using your account should complete all new and in-progress chat sessions before anyone logs off.

  1. Remain logged on to Chat and to QuestionPoint.
  2. Complete all new and in-progress chat sessions with patrons.
  3. When no chat sessions remain, find each Chat Window and log off each one.

Then one person may log on to Chat again using the account. If the message reappears, one or more open Chat Windows were missed. Repeat steps 1–3 above.
